Lay-flat "Panoramic" Photo Books

Lay-flat Panoramic Photo Books Designed and Handmade by Liz | aboutliz.com

I made my first lay-flat photo book in September 2014 for our 5-yr anniversary. After that I have made various sizes for family and friends for graduation, yearbook, gifts...

Design part in the process of these photo books was easiest, or I should say I'm most comfortable with. The making of the book, though, not so easy.

Thick rigid pages

To accurately print out finished designs, I calibrated both display and Canon Pro-100 printer with X-Rite. Each photo book page is hand coated and hand mounted on thick rigid inner substrate. Then the pages are hand bound into book, trimmed, and pressed with a solid wood book press that my husband made for me. The cover is also hand wrapped. Needless to say, there was quite bit room for mistakes where I had to re-do.

The pages can be opened completely flat at 180 degree to create a stunning panoramic view. My printer can print up to 13 by 19 inches therefore the largest book I made so far was 8x12. I also used tempered glass for some books' covers - they look very nice but super heavy!
